Many women don’t like being bothered by catcalling in public places. One woman took her teenage daughter and her husband for a stroll in the evening. Their peace was broken suddenly by a group of men making sexual comments, which broke the peace. She felt bad that her husband didn’t think it was wrong.
She wrote to us.
“On a Friday night, my husband, my 16-year-old daughter, and I were walking home from seeing my grandmother. A bunch of loud guys were in front of us. My daughter was dressed in shorts and a T-shirt because it was hot outside. The guys looked at her, whistled, and one of them asked, “Looking for some fun, girl?” I screamed at them to be quiet, but my husband just laughed!
I asked him why he didn’t stand up for our daughter when I got home. He rolled his eyes and said, “You know what? Our daughter is pretty, and I’m glad guys are interested in her.” It would be much worse if no one looked at her at all. I told him I didn’t like him because he was just like those guys. He still doesn’t get why I’m so mad at him.
