My twin sister (18F) and I (18F) took a genetic test for fun, but the results showed that we don’t share any DNA. We’re fraternal twins, so we should share some genes. We took the test because our grandparents suggested it and paid for it, without telling our parents. The results showed that my sister’s DNA was mostly Eastern and Western European, which matches our family’s background. But my results were almost all Scandinavian, with some Russian and other regions, which didn’t match my sister’s results.
We thought there might have been a mix-up with the test samples, so we retook the test, but got the same results. We told our grandparents, and they just said it was interesting but didn’t explain further. My sister suggested we ask our parents if they or any of our siblings had taken a genetic test, but when we asked our mother, she seemed annoyed and said the tests are not accurate. Our father didn’t say much.
I’m confused and worried. Twins share about 50% of their DNA, so these results don’t make sense. My mother couldn’t have cheated because we would still share some DNA. The results suggest we might not be related at all, but why would my parents adopt me if I’m not their child? I’m scared and unsure of what to think. I even checked with the clinic where my mother gave birth, and the records only show one birth on my birthday, not twins. I don’t know if it’s a mistake or if my mother didn’t give birth to me. I’m anxious that my sister might tell her boyfriend, and people will find out that something is wrong with my family and my identity.
